Old southendians vs Southend
A game for the dictator
Note to read before this match report:
From here on, Connor jury will be known as the dictator.
Spirits were high going into this match away at Southend hockey club after an outstanding curry last Saturday following a 5-2 win, and Phil celebrating, quite literally, like we had won the league. Conversation was flowing, until, out of the blue for no apparent reason, the dictator exclaimed that Ben would be taken off drag flicks following a hat trick of flicks in the game previous. This shook many boots, namely Ben’s. Ben’s head instantly went down, questioning the leadership of the dictator.
Now into the game, where free flowing hockey was going to be the way to win this game, as proven evident within the first 30 seconds as the old boys went 1-0 up, where passing from the defence through to the midfield who then found Ben on the baseline, who drove and found the dictator who tapped it in for a goal, despite his wrongdoings.
Then in the 3rd minute, Josh Copeland scored an almost identical goal, tapping it home to make it 2-0.
Next, in the 10th minute, Will O’Connor got into an outstanding position at the top of the D, drove in, and smashed it in above the goalkeepers head. One for the spectators to say the least.
After this, Copeland, like a salmon jumping out of water, leaped up to smash a ball deflected into the air following Bens baseline drive into the back of the net. Making it his 2nd of the day.
Next, was the conceded goal, one to forget for Joe as the forward for Southend drives 3 metres around the edge of the D, enters the D (which Joe thought would concur with a blown whistle and a free hit for the old boys) and hits the ball at a wild 2 miles per hour into the far corner of the goal. The only reason for this goal occurring being Joe believing it was a free hit for OSHC and letting it go in. 4-1 the score.
Next, in the second half, Ben found himself on the right of the d and slaps the ball just inside the front post, catching the goalkeeper off guard.
After this, making it 6-1, the dictator scored his 2nd of the day. Loving it and relishing in his power hungry ways.
Next, Ben wins a penalty flick after a horrible stick tackle from their goalkeeper when he was through on goal. He proceeds to slot it into the bottom left corner calmly, surprised that the dictator did not take it from him for his hat trick.
Finally, to round off a great game for the old boys and make it 8-1, the dictator found himself poking the ball in from a yard away into a wide open net, following a save from the goalkeeper. This tap in was a great win for the dictator in a 50/50. Not against Southend, but against Josh. I personally believe that Josh scored this goal, but of course, the dictator prevails, wheeling away in celebration for his hat trick.
Some may say that this was a great game for the dictator, however, I think this was a terrible tactical game from him, bringing the 2’s short corner success rate back down to a blinding 0%.
MOM: Max, a great showing from Max, being a constant thorn in Southends backside from the midfield and threading the needle.
JOS: Ben, for sulking during the game. Now, I ask the readers one question. You score 3 goals from short corners the week before, and you don’t get to take a single one the next week, how would you feel?
